The Idaho Gives 24 hours of fundraising for 600 nonprofits across the state begins online at midnight on Thursday, May 2, and ends at 11:59 p.m.
The Weiser-based Angel Wings Network has a fundraising goal of $10,000 it hopes to raise during the 24 hours of giving. The nonprofit organization has been helping people with cancer for over 10 years and all the services are free of charge.
Other Weiser nonprofits  signed up to participate in the Idaho Gives fundraiser include the Weiser Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Onion Skin Players and the Friends of the Weiser River Trail.
Since the first Idaho Gives event in 2013, Idahoans have raised more than $6.3 million for participating organizations.
Sponsored by the Idaho Nonprofit Center, it is one of the biggest fundraising events of the year, and most of it takes place online.
In 2018, individuals across the state donated over $1.5 million to 570 Idaho nonprofits. IdahoGives.org provides an easy-to-use platform for donors to search, support, and donate to Idaho nonprofits.
Angel Wings will host a Helping Hands wrap-up party on Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Weiser Senior and Community Center. There will be food, music, auctions, fun, a chili-tasting contest, and a guest speaker at 5 p.m. presenting information on nutrition during and after cancer.
As he does every year, Joe Qualls will serve as the emcee again for the party and live auction at the wrap-up party. He has been involved with Angel Wings Network for a decade.
Volunteers with Angel Wings Network will serve a dinner of pulled pork, coleslaw and beans at 6 p.m. The dessert auction starts at 7 p.m., along with live and silent auctions, and the three chili-cookoff winners will be announced. There is also a raffle for a Traeger grill and more.
Angel Wings invites the community to attend the party and “Join us and be a helping hand to folks battling cancer.”
Angel Wings coordinator Mabel Dobbs said the cancer support organization is always in need of volunteers, along with donations.
With the donations it receives, the nonprofit Angel Wings Network and its volunteers provide transportation to and from treatment and medical appointments for cancer patients, gas cards, meals, prayer blankets, literature, moral support and more.
