Cross country runs second race of the season

The Weiser Wolverine cross country team attended the second meet of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Fruitland hosted Weiser, Homedale and Payette for this meet. Many of the Weiser runners were able to set PRs in this early season race.
Coach Scott Hale shared that this was a good meet for the Wolverines. He was very impressed with their times for this early in the season.
“I was very impressed with the team’s overall efforts,” Hale said
In the men’s race, Fruitland’s Colton Sams crossed the finish line first with a time of 18:36. Weiser’s top runner Ben Hanthorn was in the lead pack with a third place finish and a time of 19:01. This was an all time PR for Hanthorn.
Colton Foster finished 11th with a time of 20:57.  Coyler Chandler finished 13th with a PR time of 21:08. Charlie Wood was only 10 seconds behind in 16th place with a time of 21:18. The Wolverine’s took second as a team.
In the women’s division Fruitland’s Emma Hillman took first place with a time of 20:37. Weiser’s top runner of the race was Kendall Rynearson with a second place finish with her time of 23:22. Libbie Rynearson took fourth with a time of 24:29. Emily Abramson finished right behind her in fifth with a time of 24:56. Kiearra Hoobery finished in the top 10  with an eighth place time of 25:38, and Ellie Eames finished 11th with a time of 27:01.  Weiser was the top girl’s team at the event.
With the meets being significantly smaller this year, it is hard to tell how the Wolverines will compete overall at the district and state levels, but based on the times from the race, Hale is feeling optimistic that the season will continue to go well.
“It’s early in the season, but based off the results it appears the team is in good shape to improve over last year,” Hale said.
