A fire suspected to be human-caused has burned more than 2,000 acres in a rugged area of  Washington County 20 miles northwest of Midvale, south of Brownlee and northeast of the Mountain Man Lodge.
The Mountain Man fire started on Saturday at about 8:30 p.m. The fire is burning in tall grass and sagebrush on BLM and private lands.
Payette National Forest officials said they expect to have the fire contained by Wednesday, Sept. 19.
On Monday, there were 79 people working the fire. They included BLM and Forest Service crews, along with engines, a helicopter and BLM and Idaho Department of Lands bulldozers.
Brian Harris, a spokesman for the Forest Service, said cool mornings are allowing firefighters to make progress. They are also dealing with afternoon breezes coming up the Snake River canyon that have pushed the fire through the dry fuels on the ground.
