The cause of a fire that destroyed multiple homes on the west side of Weiser last week is still under investigation. Fire crews were dispatched to the Diamond MH Village trailer park, located at 1020 Pioneer Road, at 1:34 a.m. on Monday, July 31.
The Weiser Fire District received mutual aid from Payette, Fruitland, and Ontario fire departments, as well as the Sand Hollow Fire Protection District.
Four mobile homes were destroyed in the blaze, in addition to a shed and one car, according to WFD Chief Tim Atwood, who assisted investigators from the Idaho State Fire Marshal’s Office in their effort to determine what sparked the blaze.
There were no injuries as a result of the fire, according to Weiser Police Chief Carl Smith, but several individuals and at least one minor have been displaced and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross, according to Atwood.
“It was a long night; it could have been worse, but at least nobody got hurt,” Atwood told the Signal American on Tuesday, Aug. 1.
He indicated a single trailer fire can jump rapidly to others due to the narrow spacing between units.
“That’s kind of the way it is with mobile home parks,” he said. “When they are parked so close together, they can burn pretty quickly. We were fortunate to get it stopped before it spread any further.”
The incident was still under investigation as of Monday, Aug. 7.
