The Weiser Wolverine boys’ soccer team faced the Fruitland Grizzlies in Fruitland in their first conference match-up of the season on Thursday, Sept. 10.
The first 25 minutes of the game had six attempts by Weiser to the Fruitland goal with no success. Fruitland also had a few attempts deflected by Weiser goalkeeper Gabe Rasmussen. Then a Fruitland midfielder snuck a goal into the left-hand corner of the net for the first score of the game.
The Weiser Wolverine cross country team attended the second meet of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Fruitland hosted Weiser, Homedale and Payette for this meet. Many of the Weiser runners were able to set PRs in this early season race.
Coach Scott Hale shared that this was a good meet for the Wolverines. He was very impressed with their times for this early in the season.
“I was very impressed with the team’s overall efforts,” Hale said
The Lady Wolverines had a busy schedule on the road last week, beginning with a non-conference pairing against the Melba Mustangs on Thursday.
The previous match-up of the Wolverines and the Mustangs went to five sets and the Wolverines came up short in grabbing the win.
The Lady Wolverines planned for some redemption in the second meeting, but unfortunately couldn’t find a consistent groove and dropped the match in three sets, 22-25, 21-25 and 18-25

The Weiser Wolverine football team took on the 4A Emmett Huskies last Friday night in Emmett.
The first half of play was competitive, but the second half Emmett showed their prowess, pushing ahead to a 42-14 loss for the Wolverines.
Weather was definitely a factor along with the sheer number of players that Emmett has.
The Weiser Wolverine cross country team hosted the first meet of the season on Thursday, Aug. 3. The team hosted Parma, Fruitland, Homedale and Payette for the traditional rolling hills course.
Coach Scott Hale shared that the weather made the first race of the season a difficult one for the Wolverines. On top of the heat, the Weiser course is one of the more difficult courses in the state.
In the mens’s race, Parma’s Dakota Lamb took first place with a time of 19:02.79. Parma took six of the top 10 spots.
The Lady Wolverines hosted the visiting Melba Mustangs last week in a non-conference pairing.
What began as a rough showing for the Wolverines, turned into a barn burner in the third set, resulting in a 5-set match. The Lady Wolverines battled to the very end, but unfortunately came up short, losing 18-25, 18-25, 25-21, 26-24 and 14-16.
After the game against the Emmett Huskies last Friday night, Weiser High School quarterback Brett Spencer drove over 500 miles to Gig Harbor, Wash., to compete in an intense two day passing competition: The Northwest 9. Spencer, the only representative chosen from Idaho, finished sixth in the competition.
It has been almost five months since our community has been able to attend a sporting event at the high school level. All of that changed last week at the high school.
Friday night at Roy Dickerson Memorial Field, the Weiser Wolverines took on the Buhl Indians in the football opener for the year. This was a great game for the Wolverines, defeating the Indians 41-7 and setting the tone for the year.
Weiser started out well marching the ball down and scoring off a 12 yard reception from quarterback Brett Spencer to Bryce Crimin.
On Thursday, Aug. 28, the Weiser Wolverine girls soccer team opened with their first home game of the season against the Emmett Huskies. The girls started the season tough facing the strong 4A team for their first game. The teams played tough with the JV taking the victory 3-1 but the varsity ended just short of a victory with the final score of Weiser 2 and Emmett 3.
It has been over 5 months since fans and athletes have been able to participate in any kind of Wolverine athletics, but the drought was brought to an end last week when the Lady Wolverines hosted fellow Washington County athletes, the Tri-Valley Titans, a combination of Cambridge and Midvale High Schools.
The fans were excited to be able to get back into Tom Falash Gymnasium to support the Lady Wolverines, and the grandstands reflected the excitement with full student and community sections.
