The Lady Wolverines continued their quest to secure a spot in the 3A Idaho State Volleyball Tournament by defeating the Payette Pirates and the Homedale Trojans An earlier loss to the Fruitland Grizzlies had the Wolverines competing in the elimination bracket of the Snake River Valley (SRV) District Tournament and fighting to stay alive. Their next pairing was against the McCall-Donnelly Vandals in the Tom Falash Gymnasium at Weiser High School on Thursday.
Weiser Wolverine football traveled to Parma last week taking on the Panthers to close out the regular season.
Parma has been struggling this year to put points on the board and this game was no different.
Weiser took a little bit of time to warm up in the first quarter exchanging possessions with Parma and neither team put any points on the board.
Weiser had some good defense in the first quarter by Zander McElroy, Beau Shields, Tyler Pope, Levi Estes, and Brett Spencer.
The Lady Wolverines had a big week of volleyball in their quest for a berth in the 3A Idaho State Volleyball Tournament starting with a match-up against the visiting Homedale Trojans.
Both the Trojans and the Lady Wolverines were competing in the elimination bracket of the Snake River Valley (SRV) District Tournament, as both squads had one loss to their credit previously in tournament play, so a win was required to proceed in the bracket.
The Wolverines started out energized and jumped to an early lead, but the Trojans rallied to tie the first set at 6-6.
The Wolverines played three soccer games last week, two in district competition and then traveled to Twin Falls for a chance to participate in the state competition.
“What a competitive week. Congratulations boys’ soccer!” said Coach Kathy Bokides.
Tuesday, October 13, was the first district game with Weiser hosting the Fruitland Grizzlies. Weiser had a strong first half, keeping the ball on the Fruitland side of the field with quite a few attempts at goals. The offensive plays were good, but the shots were a little off, so nothing went into the net.
Weiser hosted the Homedale Trojans in an epic battle this past Friday at home.
Homedale was undefeated in their Snake River Valley schedule and Weiser was looking to improve their 2-1 SRV record. Homedale is also the reigning SRV champions and state contenders so the Wolverines knew that this battle was going to be a tough one.
Coming off of an enormous game and win against McCall, Weiser had some momentum going and were excited about the match-up.
The Lady Wolverines finished up their regular season play with a 6-4 record in the Snake River Valley (SRV) Conference, which gave them a third place conference ranking.
Their placing pitted them against the sixth place, Payette Pirates Saturday afternoon to begin their quest to secure a 3A Idaho State Volleyball Tournament berth in Twin Falls on October 30-31, 2020.
The Lady Wolverines traveled to the home of Snake River Valley (SRV) rivals, the Fruitland Grizzlies last week for the final regular season pairing of the year, and the Lady Wolverines worked hard and battled, but came up short, losing in 5-sets, 25-23, 21-25, 25-20, 21-25 and 13-15
Weiser vs. Parma
October 15
Following a tough defeat to Fruitland earlier in the week, the Lady Wolverines needed to refocus their efforts and finish out their regular season play with a good showing against the visiting Parma Panthers.
Weiser had their first two back to back wins on October 6 and 8.
The boys played in McCall on Tuesday, then played Fruitland Thursday night in Weiser. Coach Kathy Bokides was proud of the team and how they are coming together.
“The team is beginning to work together rather than individually. They have learned to trust and respect one another. They have moved from an individual to a team effort. Some are learning their actions not only affect themselves, but also their team and school. Sports teach you about life,” Bokides said.
The Weiser Wolverine cross country team participated in one of the larger meets so far this season in Parma. Weiser competed against Parma, Homedale and Payette on Wednesday, October 7. Coach Scott Hale felt the meet was successful for both teams.
“We were able to accomplish our goals for the week. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams got second place out of four teams so things are looking pretty good near the end of the season,” Hale said.
The Lady Wolverines had a busy, but successful week of league play last week starting out with a road match-up against the neighboring Payette Pirates. The Lady Wolverines battled it out with the Pirates, sweeping the match 3-0 in impressive fashion 25-16, 25-16 and 25-7.
