Gale Wing Jacobs “Col. Jake Jacobs”, 81, of Payette, Idaho went to be with his Lord on Feb. 23, 2021 at his home in Payette.
Jake was born Aug. 13, 1939 in Sugar City, Idaho to Glen and Alice Jacobs, he was the third of seven children.
When he was six his family moved from Sugar City to Weiser. There they had a four-story house on Cove Road that was farmed. His mother had a long care nursing home in their home where Jake loved to help with the older residents. This started his kind loving zest for all people. Anything he could do for a person he would.
L. Elizabeth Cada, 102, of Weiser, Idaho passed away Jan. 23, 2021 at her home.
I turned 101 today and decided to write my obituary. I’m told I have a phenomenal memory and so blessed to be in my own home.
I was born Jan. 20, 1919, in Buffalo, Wyo., to Glenn and Lilly Shortill Peterson, the eighth of ten children.
In 1924 Dad went to California to work. Mom and nine of us children traveled to Boise on the train, at that time the train station was way upon a hill away from town. Aunt Anna picked us up and that was my first car ride!
Darlene Panike, 89, passed away peacefully Jan. 17, 2021 with her family at her side.
She was born Nov. 4, 1931 in Weiser, Idaho to Walter and Helen Davis Barnett.
Growing up she lived in Weiser, Henderson, Nev., Gaston and Newberg, Ore. While in high school she worked processing hazelnuts. She graduated from Newberg High School in 1949.
In 1950, Darlene married John Panike in Reno, Nev. They moved to Cherry Point, North Carolina, where John served in the Marines. They returned to work the family farm on the Oregon Side, where they raised their two children.
Melba R. Laird, 82, of Weiser, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Feb. 7, 2021.
Her trial and illnesses in life the past five years have been many. Her unwavering courage and bravery is such a great example to all of us.
Melba was born May 22, 1938, in Payson, Utah to Henry Alonzo Binning and LaRue Nelson Binning.
Mom loved the great outdoors, gardening, flowers, and had a beautiful yard. Taking care of it with tender hands.
Doris May Gardner was born on Oct. 28, 1932 in Nevada, Missouri. She passed away on Jan. 16, 2021 at the home of her brother in Weiser, Idaho.
In January of 1946, the family boarded a troop train that brought them west, first settling on a ranch on the Oregon Flat and then to Weiser where Doris called home for many years.
Doris’ life was devoted to the caring of others. After the early death of their father, Doris helped her Mom raise her younger siblings and continued, lovingly caring for her Mom until she passed away in 2007.
Oval. Wayne Metcalf, 83, of Weiser, Idaho passed away Jan. 8, 2021.
Oval was born July 4, 1937 in Madison, North Carolina to Ernest and Annie Metcalf, the second of five children.
He attended Mars Hill High School where he was very active in team sports.
While growing up he worked with his Dad growing and harvesting tobacco.
The day came when the U.S. Army called and he was sent to serve in Germany from 1961-62 during the Berlin Crisis.
Jose “Armando” Santos Flores, 90, of Weiser, Idaho passed away peacefully on Jan. 16, 2021.
He was the first of ten children born to Francisca and Jesus Santos. Armando’s twin sister Cruz was born shortly after, making it child number two for Francisca and Jesus.
Being the oldest brother, he always set the rules and example for his younger siblings.
As children, his parents migrated from a small village Nava Coahuila Mexico to the border town of Pierdas Negras, Mexico. This is where the family began the process to legally move to Eagle Pass Texas.
Robert Edson Hoffman, 76, of Cleveland, Tenn., passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021.
Robert was born on Sept. 15, 1944 in Ontario, Oregon.
He grew up in Texas graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. and M.S. in Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics.

Chapter 1
(Coming to America)
Mitsu Ann Ogami (Toyoda) was born on Feb. 9, 1929, in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.
During the war years, she often recalled the need to be frugal. Food, clothing, and all consumer products were difficult to obtain.
During the occupation years, the Toyoda family hosted the Anderson family. Mr. Anderson was an executive of the American Red Cross. His daughter Shirley and Mitsu became best friends and often referred to each other as sisters.
Sally Roundy Kelley died on Dec. 28, 2020. She was born March 11, 1937 in Utah. She lived most of her adult life with her husband, Perry Kelley, in Weiser, Idaho.
On the last day of her mortal life we all knew she was dying. We were privileged with the gift of saying goodbye in person, holding hands, talking face to face. We also witnessed her goodbyes to other loved ones.
