Olsen signs letter of intent to play football at North Dakota

Weiser High School senior Ryndon Olsen has signed a letter of intent to play football at North Dakota State College of Science.
 Family, friends, coaches, and administrators gathered in the school’s foyer where he made his commitment, and transition to a Wildcat, official on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
 “I want to play football, but I also want go through their meat-cutting program,” he told the Signal American.

Indianhead pathways project to move forward

In summer 2022 the City of Weiser was awarded a $250,000 non-matching grant to complete new sections of sidewalk along Indianhead Road and other locations in that area of the city.
 The project was put out to bid, but no bids came in, surprising city staff, which recently put the project out to bid again.
 This time, the city received nine bids from contractors willing to do the work, the city  council on Monday making the announcement.

Imagination Library nets free books

If you live in Washington County, you can get free books for your children under five-years-old.
 Launched in 1995, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free, “high quality” books to kids from birth to age five.
 The program had its beginnings in Sevier County, Tenn. where the famed singer-songwriter, actress, and philanthropist grew up amid impoverished conditions.

National FFA Week shines light on agriculture

National FFA Week shines a light not only on the FFA organization, but also agriculture as a whole. 
 Weiser High School’s FFA chapter feels it’s important to inform our community about agriculture and all it brings to the table. 
 The 2024 special week, Feb. 17-24, gives us a chance to advertise the importance of all parts of agriculture. It’s important to the FFA that we have this week to spike an interest in kids about this field. As we know, agriculture will grant job security because there will always be a need for food. 

Contractor secured to start work on walkway and sidewalk

Wow! Talk about a hard-fought football game. Both of the Kansas City Chiefs’ and the San Francisco 49ers’ defenses really put up a fight! I remember watching the very first Super Bowl game between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs in 1967. (Yes, I’m old.) And I think I have watched all the games since then. 
 I’m no expert, but I do not remember one where the defenses dominated a game like this one. It was too bad it could not have remained a tie at the end of regulation. To me, it was one of those games where neither team deserved to lose. 

WRASR to hold monthly meeting Feb. 21

 The Weiser River Animal Shelter and Rescue’s monthly meeting will be held at the Bee Tree Folk School, located at 8 E. Idaho St., Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. The public is invited.

UofI animal science clinic

 The UofI Extension will have an animal science clinic focusing on animal health on Feb. 17 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the fairgrounds in Cambridge. There will be hands on educational experiences for all. All 4-H parents and certified volunteers are free, enrolled 4-H members are $2 and general public is $10.
