Blood Drive

Free Pancake Feed

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church welcomes everyone to join them for “Fat Tuesday,” March 5. Bells and Race will start at 5:30 p.m. and free pancakes, sausage and bacon will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Canned food donations for Love INC are being accepted.

Busy Bee Club chili and soup feed

The Busy Bee Club annual chili and soup feed will be held Sunday, March 3 from noon to 3 p.m. at the historic Saling School located in the Mann Creek area, off Hwy. 95 on Jackson Road. Homemade chili and soups with cornbread, cake and beverages will be served. Cost for the all you can eat meal is $7 adults and $6 for children 6-12. Under 6 is free. Elks Fish Fry

The Weiser Elks Lodge P.E.R.-E.O.Y. Fish Fry will be held Saturday, March 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the lodge located at 38 W. Idaho St. The all you can eat or until all is gone fish fry will be $8 suggested donation. Proceeds to to local charities.

The Illustrious Onion Skin Players will present their melodrama “The Clock Runs Out for Sarabelle Tyme or Ask Not for Whom the Belle Strolls?” The performance will be held at the Star Theater, 342 State Street on March 1, 2, 8, 9, 12, 15 and 16. Doors open at 7 p.m. A Sunday matinee will be on March 10 and 17 with doors opening at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 each or $8 matinee ($12 and $10 at the door). Tickets can be purchased at the Weiser Chamber of Commerce, 208-414-0452 or online at illustriousonionskinplayers.org.

A tragic story unfolds in the Owyhees

A tragic story recently unfolded in Owyhee County, where a couple and an infant child made the unfortunate mistake of trying to drive to Silver City and got stuck on the way in deep snow.
 The two were headed to California on U.S. Highway 95. For whatever reason, maybe in a misguided moment of adventure, they decided to get off the highway and drive back into the hills.
 I’m familiar with the road to Silver City. I’ve made the trip on Highway 95 to Nevada many times. More on that later.

An update for residents on some city street projects

Some of the initial work has started on the East Galloway Street project.  The city’s engineering company, Keller Associates, is working on the final design work.  
 They have had surveyors out measuring the City Right-of-Way and evaluating the state of the current sidewalk along the street to see what needs to be replaced as well as where there is no sidewalk. 
 The work will go from State Street to East 6th Street and work will also be done to provide sidewalk from Park Street north to connect sidewalk at Pence Street.  

Debra (Debbie) Ann Skoglun

Debra (Debbie) Ann Skoglun, age 56, passed away comfortably on Monday, Feb. 4, at St. Lukes Boise Medical Center with her family by her side after a 5 day battle in the ICU following respiratory failure. 
 Born Sept. 1, 1962, Debbie was an adventurous, easy going, loving person always looking for a good laugh. It was very rare to see Debbie without a smile on her face and those that knew her knew how much she loved rock hunting, camping, mushroom hunting, off-roading, hiking, chasing waterfalls and had an overall love for exploring the outdoors. 

Dance Extreme 2.0 to send 8 teams to nationals in May

Dance Extreme 2.0 officially kicked off their season with perhaps the most important competition at the America On Stage Competition - Boise Kick Off Classic at the Nampa Civic Center on Feb. 15.
 Eight teams and three soloists attended the competition. All eight teams scored high enough at this first competition to be invited to the National Competition.
