Evelyn Stover Recycling Center in Weiser set to close next week as nonprofit departs

The Evelyn Stover Recycling Center in Weiser will close next week when the nonprofit organization currently running the facility bows out on Sept. 26. 
 The recycling center has been managed by the Weiser River Resource Council since September of 2014, a total of four years this month.  
 WRRC volunteers stepped in to run the recycling operation after the local Kiwanis Club disbanded, which had operated the recycling center for years.

Wolverines rally late to beat Vale 31-16

After trailing at halftime, and following a scoreless third quarter, Weiser came alive in the  final period and scored 17 points to earn a 31-16 win on the road against Vale. 
 The Wolverines improve to 3-1 on the season with the nonconference victory over the Vikings on Friday night as they start their league schedule this Friday at Parma.

Ambulance district board approves FY 2019 budget

The Weiser Ambulance District’s fiscal year 2019 budget of $1 million was approved following a public hearing by commissioners.
 The three Washington County commissioners serve as the governing board for the ambulance district. The hearing on the ambulance budget was held on Aug. 27 prior to the county budget hearing.
 The budget anticipates $749,000 in revenue from various sources, including fees for services, and $210,000 in taxes, which is down from an intital estimae of $251,000 in property and other taxes. 

Cambridge FFA August Spotlight

Every month the Cambridge FFA chapter selects a member to be recognized for their hard work and achievements. The spotlight member for August 2018 is Jayden Mink.
 Jayden is our current FFA president, a captain of the football team, Student Body President, and Treasurer of the National Honor Society. He is also actively involved in basketball and baseball.  During his free time, Jayden likes to go fly fishing and write poetry. His future goals include attending the University of Idaho in Rangeland Ecology and then returning back to Cambridge to his family ranch.

Gem State Fiddlers to host fall kick-off event

The Gem State Fiddlers will sponsor a fall kick-off event with a potluck, jamming and dancing at the home of Mike and Linda Smith, 765 Indianhead Rd. on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to come play, listen and dance.

Four County Art Guild to host art festival

The Four County Art Guild members will be creating, showing and selling their art at Marbella’s Pottery, Mosaics and Wine on Saturday, Sept. 22. There will also be a section honoring retired guild artists. Stop by anytime between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Food Bank at Cornerstone Assembly

The Idaho Mobile Food Bank comes to Cornerstone Assembly on the third Wednesday of each month. The semi arrives at 9:30 a.m. and the distribution begins at 10 a.m. Those seeking food items please line up in the parking lot on the corner of E. Main and E. 5th St. in Weiser. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Please bring containers for your food items and be patient. Community volunteers are also needed. If interested come at 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. to sign in and be briefed. Let's Talk About It at the Weiser Library

The Weiser Public Libary will participate in the Let’s Talk About It program. The first book will be “To Kill a Mockingbird” with the discussion to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 18 from noon to 2 p.m. at the library. Books are available at the library for check out. The second book will be “Growing Up” on Oct. 23 and the third will be “March” on Nov. 27.
